"The new fourth edition of FOUNDATIONS™ is our largest effort yet, and makes the greatest strides in offering solutions to real problems in conveying of bulk materials," says Todd Swinderman, Chief Technology Officer and Board Member for Martin Engineering and one of the book's lead authors. "This edition has increased emphasis on safety, on dust control, on the human factor in control of fugitive material, and on the payback for improvement in bulk material handling systems. It also features new ideas for belt washing systems, hood and spoon transfers, the analysis of belt cleaner performance, and the incorporation of material science into the handling of bulk materials."

This non-commercial volume includes more than 600 color photographs and illustrations, as well as tables, engineering calculations, advanced topics, sample problems, return on investment analysis, and typical specifications.

FOUNDATIONS™ 4 covers conveyors with a comprehensive, real world approach. It features topics ranging from basic components of belt conveyors to the calculation of air flow, and the analysis of material properties. It takes readers from the basics of how and why conveyors run as they do (and where their problems come from) to what to do to prevent spillage, dust, and carryback, and how to correct tracking, and how to engineer a belt washing system.

The first printing of FOUNDATIONS™ 4 is published in English; Martin Engineering plans to offer editions in other languages at a future date.

FOUNDATIONS™ 4 represents the latest update to Martin Engineering's series of FOUNDATIONS™ books, discussing fugitive material control and conveyor improvements that dates back to 1991.
