Edwin H. Peterson
Edwin (Ed) H. Peterson serves as Chairman of the Board for Martin Engineering.
He has been affiliated with Martin since 1948, when he began working in the company founded by his father, Edwin F. Peterson. He became President beginning with his father’s election as a delegate to the Illinois Constitutional Convention of 1970.
Peterson’s primary interests are research and development, sales, marketing and the development of the company’s global network for manufacturing and distribution. To him, customer service is #1. As a marketing visionary, with his mind always focused on business and with a relentless pursuit of quality and innovation, he has consistently supported the development of new ideas and continuous improvement to further the company's position as the world leader in bulk material handling technologies. Peterson credits the company’s success to its employees.
Peterson attended Western Illinois University.
Scott E. Hutter, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is responsible for the overall management of the global operations of Martin Engineering. Hutter joined Martin in 2004 as President and added the title of CEO in 2005. At Martin, Hutter has been instrumental in company restructuring, long-range strategic planning, global expansion of the business and diversification of products. In addition, he has strengthened teamwork, open-communication channels and personal access to employees.
Before joining Martin, Hutter was employed by Montgomery Elevator Company (and its acquirer KONE) for more than 20 years, rising from Sales and Management Trainee to Senior Vice President, New Equipment Business. In those positions, Scott achieved significant experience and success in the management of sales, services, projects and people. He was instrumental in the unification and management of international product platforms and in the development of a business planning process.
Hutter holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Augustana College.
The company is organized in a corporate structure, with departments arranged under Global Vice Presidents for Finance, Human Resources, Operations & Product Management and Global Sales.
Ronald J. Vick
Ronald (Ron) J. Vick, Chief Financial Officer is responsible for leading Martin Engineering’s global Financial, Risk Management and Information Technology efforts. He joined the company as CFO in 2003 after experience with StanleyWorks, Newell Rubbermaid and Dana Corporation.
Vick’s strengths and significant experience are in developing people and formalizing analytics for measuring and driving business performance as well as in business infrastructure, reorganization of accounting departments, acquisitions and international business integration.
Vick has a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Bowling Green State University and is a Certified Management Accountant. He completed his M.B.A. at Bradley University.
Robert J. Nogaj
Robert J. Nogaj serves as Vice President of Operations for Martin, where his responsibilities now include Research and Development and Product Management. He joined Martin in 1993 and was named Vice President of Operations in 2001.
Nogaj is a hands-on executive with successful experience in all aspects of business including sales, marketing, research and development, product management and manufacturing operations. Fluent in Polish, with linguistic skills in German, Russian and other Slavic languages, he has extensive overseas experience.
Nogaj holds a B.S. in Construction and an M.B.A. from Bradley University in Peoria.
Janice L. Verbeke
Janice L. Verbeke joined Martin Engineering in 2013 as the USA Human Resources Manager. She was promoted to Global Director of Human Resources in 2014. She is responsible for leading the HR Leaders around the globe at all of the Martin Business Units. Janice is also responsible for Health and Safety in the Neponset, IL and Peru, IL facilities.

Patricia L. Peterson
Director of Community Relations
Patricia (Pat) L. Peterson has since 1960, along with her husband Ed, grown and developed Martin into the global company it is today. A planner, she has cultivated the business through strengthening and nurturing not only distributor, customer and community relations but also the sense of family among Martin employees around the world.
In addition, Peterson has been instrumental in creating charitable passions and interests in the name of Martin. Through raising five children, she realizes the importance of family and has donated to many charities for children and adults, both in her community and worldwide.
Pat remains active as a voting board member and continues traveling to promote the Martin family corporate identity.
Stephen R. Wood
Director Since 1996
Stephen (Steve) R. Wood, now retired, served for 36 years as a corporate executive, including stints as President of the Louisville Gas and Electric Company and as Chief Administrative Officer of NV Energy (Nevada’s principal electric utility). He also spent four years as President of his own private equity investment firm.
Wood has served on the board of numerous commercial and civic organizations, including the National Association of Manufacturers, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kentucky, Fifth Third Bank of Kentucky, Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management.
Wood’s contributions to Martin include senior leadership experience in large and small enterprises, know-how in electric utility operations and expertise in corporate administration and development.
He holds a B.S. in Industrial Management from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from the University of Detroit and he was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.
Henry (Hank) J. West
Director Since 2005
Henry (Hank) J. West brings significant experience in corporate management, including profit and loss control, acquisitions, divestitures and turnarounds in the industrial, high technology and service sectors to his position as a member of the Martin Board.
Since 1992, West has served as a senior executive with The Marmon Group, a diversified private industrial company composed of more than 100 independent manufacturing and service firms. Currently, he holds the title of Executive Vice President. His resume details significant experience in strengthening manufacturing companies in a variety of industries, as well as a strong background in international business.
West holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.
James D. Anderson
Director Since 2010
James (Jim) D. Anderson served in leadership roles with John Deere Construction and Forestry Company for 41 years until he retired as Vice President.
Responsibilities in his last position included managing the leadership process, strategic planning, global business development and mergers and acquisitions.
Anderson’s leadership includes extensive work in markets key to Martin’s future growth and profitability, with significant experience in China, India, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Latin America and Europe.
Anderson has expertise in disciplines central to Martin’s success including marketing, process management and leadership development. He holds a B.A. and has completed M.A. course work from the University of Kansas.
Allen J. Fagel
Chief Legal Counsel Since 1995
Allen J. Fagel is a partner in the law firm Thompson Coburn, LLP, where he has 50 years of experience in the areas of general corporate law, manufacturing law and mergers and acquisitions.
Fagel is licensed to practice in Illinois and Wisconsin, as well as before the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. Tax Court.
He holds a J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law, as well as a B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been active in committees of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association and he serves on the Board of Directors for the Anti-Defamation League.
