The assessment of the dust and spillage arising from material handling is used to determine and evaluate options that minimize problems and verify regulatory compliance.
A graph is used to show the results of the respirable dust testing to verify that the respirable dust level is below the OSHA requirement of 2.4 mg/m3 based on a time weighted average.
A Fugitive Material Analysis measures dust and spillage associated with a transfer point handling material as identified in the project specifications. The analysis is based on the samples of fugitive material (spillage) gathered in collecting pans (see photo on the left) and respirable dust assessed by a light scattering photometer.
This evaluation procedure is conducted in advance of, and after the completion of, a project to improve a belt conveyor transfer point. It provides information on the relative success of the project’s performance. These results are reported to the project customer in a timely fashion.
