A HISTORY OF INNOVATION

Martin Engineering was founded in 1944. The first product was the VIBROLATOR® Pneumatic Ball Vibrator patented by Edwin F. Peterson and still used today for its original application of promoting the flow of bulk solid materials. The name Martin Engineering came from an earlier partnership utilized to manufacture and market Peterson's invention.

Over the years, Martin Engineering has maintained its position as the market leader through a practical, hands-on, problem-solving approach. Evidence of our innovation is seen in the company's list of patents from around the world. The most notable innovations from Martin Engineering include:

  • Ball and Roller Vibrators: Invented and commercialized by Martin Engineering in the 1940s and 1950s. These compressed air-driven devices are still among the most popular industrial vibrators, as they are simple, reliable, and inexpensive.
  • BIG BLASTER® Air Cannons: Invented by Martin Engineering, these low-pressure blasting systems are now a world standard. They provide an effective method to improve material flow from large silos, bunkers, and cement kiln pre-heaters.
  • TRAC-MOUNT™ Cleaning and Sealing Systems: Martin Engineering led the way in identifying the costs associated with the escape of fugitive materials from belt conveyors and the development of practical, serviceable systems to control this dust.
  • DURT HAWG® Belt Cleaners: The first molded-in-one-piece urethane belt cleaners combine rugged durability and low cost, for difficult applications above or below ground.
  • "CARP" Belt Cleaning Blades: The patented "CARP" (Continuous Angle Radial Pressure) design features a curved blade that maintains an effective cleaning edge throughout blade life.
  • Vibration Systems & Solutions: A new generation of pneumatic and electric vibrators and conveying systems maintains material flow while reducing energy consumption and plant noise.
  • FOUNDATIONS™ Transfer Point System: Martin Engineering pioneered the systems approach to control fugitive material arising at belt conveyor loading points with improved belt support, wear liners, and multiple-barrier sealing systems. Martin Engineering continues to educate the industry on controlling dust and spillage and improving transfer points through the publication of its FOUNDATIONS™ books, related educational workshops and on-line training. (The fourth edition of FOUNDATIONS™ is scheduled for release in October of 2008.)
  • The Pyramid Approach: The philosophy expands the FOUNDATIONS™ Transfer Point System with Commitment, Knowledge, and Service for superior long-term performance.
  • Dust Management Technologies: Martin Engineering offers a comprehensive approach to controlling fugitive material from belt conveyors, including integrated systems to minimize dust creation, prevent spillage, collect airborne particles, and suppress dust.
