Martin Motion, a robotics team made up of students from eight local high schools, recently qualified at the Seven Rivers Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition in La Crosse Wisconsin. Martin Motion, team # 6237,  began the competition ranked 29 out of the 53 teams present, completed the qualification matches with a rank of seven, and advanced to the finals.

Team # 6237 had the privilege of being named Captain of their playoff alliance as well as receiving the Pit Safety Award. 23 “Motioneers” and five mentors attended Regionals to compete, support, and advise. After a tough battle, Martin Motion lost the final match but not before earning a Wild Card ticket to the 2018 World Championship. The Championship will be held in Detroit Michigan at the Cobo Center and Ford Field April 25th through the 28th, and Martin Motion will compete against qualifying teams from all over the world.

Students from Alwood, Annawan, Bureau Valley, Cambridge, Galva, Kewanee, Stark County, and Wethersfield make up Martin Motion – Team # 6237. Martin Engineering is a proud sponsor of Martin Motion and enjoys providing opportunities for students to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Martin Engineering, founded in 1944, is a family-owned business located in Neponset, Illinois that has patented hundreds of products to make the handling of bulk materials cleaner, safer, and more productive.

By helping to inspire students and ignite these academic principles, Martin hopes to see an increase in youth pursuing careers in STEM-related fields.

With the help of other local businesses and supporters, Martin Motion is able to operate as a cost-free program to all students, allowing for students to have the same level of opportunity and engagement no matter what their financial situation is.
